Whilst certain fabrics have been used over the years and been found to be effective for people with itchy skin conditions; such as silk, pure cotton and more recently organic cotton, technology is advancing beyond just comfort and is developing anti-bacterial materials in order to fight infection.

Healing and anti-bacterial properties in fabrics are now moving from purely clinical settings into the retail market. Through companies developing ideas that would benefit from material with these properties a new generation of clothing and functional garments are appearing. Numerous companies are now using silver nano technology because it has been proven to fight infection, kill bacteria and  accelerate healing.

Silver has been renowned for years to be safe next to human skin and have anti-bacterial properties. Fabric technologists have spent years developing fabrics which incorporate silver sized nano particles into their fabrics composition. Some have coated the surface with nano sized silver particles, others woven it into the material where it becomes visible. However, because of its antibacterial properties, it is also used for medical uniforms in hospitals, where it is resistant to many types of bacteria.

The Little Protechtor garments are made exclusively from (100%) Cleancool™ material; it is as gentle next to the skin as pure cotton clothing and provides the wearer with unbeatable antibacterial protection. People with Atopic Dermatitis have consistently higher concentrations of staphylococcus aureus bacteria on their skin, which has been found to be an important factor aggravating skin lesions and leading to further itchiness (J.Q Gong et al, British Journal of Dermatology, 2006). As Staphylococcus aureus is carried under the fingernails, scratching spreads infection and makes the skin worse. The Little Protechtor system not only helps to stop scratching damage but also helps fight the risk of infection. When the garment is worn it prevents any infection carried under the fingernails from spreading to other parts of the body via hand contact.

In addition, it has the benefits of regulating body temperature, thus preventing the accumulation of sweat and mildew. Sweat does not build up, therefore odour evaporates.

Other factors which can influence both adult and infantile eczema flare ups:

Pollen, house dust mites, animals, certain foods, certain fabrics, rough clothing, some soaps, cosmetics and perfume, detergents, cigarette smoke, solvents, water (especially hard water), stress and temperature changes (weather) tiredness and sometimes boredom.

In the case of infantile eczema, when a child can't verbally communicate in words, it can be difficult to pinpoint what particular things are affecting them.
