Will I need to wash the garments every day?
|
|
No, this will not be necessary unless they get very heavily soiled.

How long will the garments take to dry?
|
| Usually air dried within a few hours or if need be you can use a delicate heat setting on a tumble drier. |

Can I put the garments in the washing machine with other clothes?
|
| Yes, as long as the other clothes have the same wash guide instructions. Do not put garments in with other items that are heavily soiled or have come into contact with animal hair. |

What if I'm left without a garment ready to use?
|
|
Try not to do this, it only takes a few minutes before your child can rip open the skin and cause damage to the skin surface. I'd recommend a minimum of two garments per child.

Should I continue using topical steroids on my child's skin as well as the Little Protechtor garments?
|
| The Scratchtite is a steroid free treatment and when your child starts using it, the need for prescriptive medication will start to decrease almost immediately. You can control flare ups by wearing the garment and so minimising scratching damage and infection. Whilst you continue to use the Scratchtite in a preventative manner the antibacterial properties in the fabric prevent infection and therefore you and your child will be able to manage the condition without, in most cases, the need for drugs. |
| Will the garments lose their anti-bacterial properties? |
| The Material has been tested to 150 washes and showed no decrease in anti-bacterial properties. The silver anti- bacterial effect is described as almost permanent. |

Can my child eat with the Scratchtite on?
|
|
If your child is very itchy at meal times there is no reason that the garment can’t be worn, just put it straight into the washing machine afterwards. You can also try removing one sleeve whilst they eat. So their dominate hand is holding the food and makes a distraction from scratching. If stain occur try using glycerine solution (see LAundry Care page).

Can I leave the Scratchtite on all day?
|
|
Sometimes if my daughter’s skin is itchy and it’s a house day and I am busy around the house I will leave the garment on whilst she plays and eats. I try to take it off when it is not needed and keep an eye on her. It really is up to you. You know when your child is most likely to be itchy.

Does my child have to use the Scratchtite when we are in the car?
|
|
I would always advise you put a garment on for even a short trip in the car. You won’t be able to suddenly pull over and put the garment on when you’re driving and nine times out of ten they will scratch. Take it off when you get to where you’re going.

Do I have to put the Scratchtite on underneath outside clothing if we are going for a car journey?
|
| No put the Scratchtite on over the top of normal clothing. Sometimes I put a t-shirt on then the Scratchtite and then a jumper over the top if it’s a cooler day. If you are getting in and out the car and going into service stations then you don’t want to keep taking garment on and off. |

Does my child always need to put the Scratchtite on at night-times?
|
| Yes, as a preventative measure always put the Scratchtite on. Nocturnal scratching done when a child is semi-conscious can cause a lot of damage to the skin. |

Should I put the Scratchtite on when they take a nap?
|
|
It is always best as children frequently wake up scratching due to itchiness and this will stop scratching damage upon waking.

Should I use special washing powder?
|
|
No, use the washing powder that your child is already used to.
|

Can I use fabric softener?
|
|
It wouldn’t be neccessary as the fabric is soft anyway.

If my child wears the Scratchtite whilst playing will it limit what they can do?
|
|
Children are very adaptable and will continue to play as normal with the garment on. Children who are being supervised by an adult whilst playing do not need the Scratchtite on (as long as they are not itchy).

Is the Scratchtite suitable for baby eczema?
|
|
As Eczema can start quite early on in life the Scratchtite sizes begin from approximately three months old. Very small babies will find the first size a little big - but they will soon grow into it. Therefore the Scratchtite is suitable for infants suffering from baby eczema.

Can my child wear the Scratchtite in nursery or pre-school?
|
|
Yes, staff will find it of benefit because they can help the child immediately (especially if they are busy). Always advise anyone supervising your child how to use the Scratchtite most effectively.

Will the garment collect moisture and make my child hot?
|
|
No, the material, unlike just pure cotton clothing, is thermodynamic and will not trap moisture or heat. Moisture is moved to the top layer of the fabric and dispersed. The material is fully breathable making it not only ideal for infantile eczema, but for young children's eczema.

The Scratchtite only covers the hands and arms - what about eczema on other parts of the body (legs, back)?
|
|
The Scratchtite has been specifically developed to be minimal and practical in almost all situations. You can't put a full body suit on every time you go for a car journey, neither can you keep swapping tops about. The important thing is that by preventing the itch scratch cycle you are eliminating the damage caused by scratching. This assists the body's own ability to heal the skin naturally. Importantly - as the garment is antibacterial it helps to prevent bacteria from being spread from one part of the body to another whilst itching. The skin therefore will improve over time as skin cells regenerate every 21-28 days.
